Time to dig a little deeper with our worms!

It’ safe to say our Worm farm project has opened a world of learning opportunities and today it just got a little bit deeper.

How you ask? Well, as a group we unpacked a few ideas about what to do with the proceeds we have collected from all the worm wee.

We congregated as a group and drew inspiration from The barefoot invester’s concept about splitting up the money with 3 different intentions. (Side note, if you haven’t discovered Scott Pape, do yourselves a favour and check out his books. In particular, the ‘The barefoot investor for Families’ has some great tips for encouraging a healthy relationship with money for your kids. Check it out here.

Back to the Worms…

Today’s group time time allowed us to speak about how “happy our hearts feel” when we both give and receive which gently segued into a discussion about gratitude. A constant undertone to our approach as Early Childhood Educators.

This is what we’ve decided to do:

1. Spend some of the money on something fun for us. Woo hoo Diamonds! We wonder what you’ll come up with!?

2. Save some of the money to put towards a collaborative project in our preschool. We have a grand plan here, but like all good things, it will take time. (Clue - Starts with Sand; Ends with Pit)

And most beautifully,

3. Give some money to something we care about within our community.

Option 1 & 2 are yet to be fully decided and rolled out , however today we spent time exploring option 3 - Giving.

As some of you may have noticed, we’ve been building connections with our local Mayfield Community Garden (Silsoe Street Community Garden) of late and we thought, what it would be great idea to donate something for the freshly revamped space!

Knowing they are developing a workshop space, we thought that a gratitude wall would be a beautiful addition to the area so people visiting can add to the wall and build a culture of gratitude and connection amongst our local community. What a nice tradition to create with our children, an afternoon walk with a little bit of gratitude thrown in for good luck.

The plan is to make the Gratitude wall here at preschool as it will essentially be an oversized blackboard. And we’ll all jump on board painting it up with black board paint and preparing it as a group.

Next, we will invite all our family and friends to attend the next working bee at the garden so we can install it as a group and place a little MELC Plaque as a reminder of our investment into the local community.

We can’t think of a better way to spend our hard earned worm wee proceeds!

Stay tuned to hear when we’ll be gifting the Gratitude wall, but for now, head over to Silsoe Street Community Garden Facebook group and Instagram to see the magic that’s happening in our local hood!

Below are some photos of how we documented our our journey so far. A bit of a creative mess… But that’s how we like it!

Oh and Meet ‘Wazza’ and ‘Wally’ the Worms. Drawn so beautifully by two of our very own little Creatives!!!

Lots of wiggly worm love to you all xox
